More about Handira Wedding Blankets:

Berbers were the first inhabitants of coastal Northern Africa, and throughout the centuries have maintained a separate language and culture from neighboring Arab cultures. Berbers are a nomadic people with strong traditions surrounding textiles and rugs, which are practical for use in Morocco's varying landscapes and climate. Handira blankets are made in anticipation of a wedding by the bride's female relatives. Often taking weeks to create, the blankets are handwoven and each mirrored sequin is hand applied - and during the process of its creation, baraka, or blessings, are lovingly bestowed on the couple into the blanket. When complete, the bride wears the blanket as a cape, and uses it in her home for warmth and decoration.
